Australia Family Day Care Scheme is a network of experienced and registered educators who provide care for other people’s children in their own home. Educators have been carefully selected and supervised and operate under the Education and Care Services National Regulations. Educators and Coordination Units are accessed and rated against the National Quality Standard to ensure quality and continuous improvement. Children aged between the age of 6 weeks and 12 years are nurtured in a small group setting and through the Educator's individualized programming are encouraged to further develop their skills and knowledge.
Australia Family Day Care is a coordinated childcare service whereby children are cared for in a small group in the homes of accredited educators. The service is funded by the Commonwealth Government and was established to provide part-time, casual, before and after school care, emergency and vacation care for children aged 0-12 Years of age, within the safety and security of private homes in local communities.
In a home setting, a Family Day Care educator can look after up to 7 Children (in addition to his/her own children), of whom only up to 4 can be preschool aged. Educators may negotiate a charge of between $5 – $8 or more per hour (per child) for the service.
The Commonwealth Government subsidizes the cost of child care up to 50 hours a week per child, making it easier for families to utilize an educator’s services.
