The Golden Dragon Museum is home to the historic parade collection of the Bendigo Chinese Association, including the heritage listed nineteenth-century dragon Loong and our current parade dragon Sun Loong. While the history and stories of Bendigo's Chinese community is a central focus of our museum we also display a wide range of artifacts which illustrate the richness and beauty of traditional Chinese culture.
All areas of the Museum, Classical Chinese Gardens, and Kuan Yin Temple are wheelchair accessible. A number of wheelchairs are available in the foyer, please ask at reception.bGuide Dogs and other registered assistance dogs are welcome at the Golden Dragon Museum, in the gallery spaces, garden, temple and to all programs. Companion and Carer Card holders receive one free entry with the purchase of one admission ticket (to equal value). GDM Town Map 2010Car parking is available in the McCrae Street Car Park and at the rear of the Museum via Park Road. Designated coach parking is located on the left of Farmers Lane accessed via Bridge Street. There are two Accessible car spaces located on the corner of Park Road and Bridge Street. The use of flash photography, tripods, is not permitted in all permanent exhibitions and most temporary exhibitions.
Handheld photography and filming are permitted. The Museum regularly hosts news and documentary crews from around the world. Each request for filming and photography is considered on its own merits and if the request is accepted as a strong promotional opportunity for the museum. Our buildings and unique permanent exhibitions make it an ideal location for commercial filming and photography. While the Museum regularly provides supervised access to a vast array of public spaces and ‘behind the scenes’ locations, our valuable scientific specimens, and cultural artifacts are rarely loaned out for commercial filming or photography purposes.
