Here at the Alice Springs School of the Air we aim to offer a wide variety of educational services and activities for around 120 isolated primary and middle school children living on cattle stations, aboriginal communities, remote tourist facilities and national parks, as well as travelling families in the Northern Territory, the extreme north of South Australia and the south-east of Western Australia.
Our school was the first to use two-way radio broadcasts to help with the education of students living in remote areas and unable to attend face-to-face lessons from typical schools. Since 2006, we rely completely in satellite technology to conduct our classes.
Our educational services cover an area of around 1.3 square kilometers. As a visitor, you will be able to experience our Visitor Centre, an interpretive centre that offers our visitors a virtual journey in "The World's Largest Classroom". Our gift shop has a wide array of special merchandise that helps us to support financially our projects and enrich our school’s program. While visiting you will enjoy a short film and a guided presentation showing the history and innovations made to our school since 1951.
During the school term, you can overview a live lesson and share stories with our students and their families. We aim to give an inspiring and enlightening insight to a uniquely Australian school.
