Respite Options for Senior Territorians (ROST for short) were programs originally based in Darwin and Alice Springs. Two further ROST programs have been opened in Palmerston and Old Timers Village and are targeted to provide support and respite for working carers.
While the original ROST programs provide respite for those people living in the Northern Territory who are fulfilling the role of carer for a person whose challenging behavior prevents them from accessing other community supports and provide social stimulation for those people with challenging behaviors who are living alone, the subsequent services in our newest programs support working carers of frail aged people. This criteria includes carers who are studying or working aside from their caring duties.
Our program aims to ensure proper care to patients as well as respite to carers and families, guaranteeing clients maintain social skills as well as providing activities for them to do aside their jobs as main carers. We also strive to make our surrounding community understand the importance of primary caregivers and the toll that kind of dedication can take on a person’s personal life and even career, by planning workshops and other community activities.
