The Port Pirie Railway Station serves as a National Museum. Built in a striking Victorian Pavilion style in 1902, the Customs House and Central Police Station was built in 1882, and the whole ensemble constitutes the Port Pirie Railway Station Museum. The former 1882 Customs House and Central Police Station form part of the Port Pirie Historic and Folk Museum. Features include the narrow gauge steam shunting engine Port Pirie and Diprotodon bones found in the area.
Travel back in time at the National Trust Museum in Port Pirie. The magnificent Victorian pavilion style building is a gem itself, constructed in 1902 and becoming the Ellen Street Railway Station until 1967. Today, it is home to a myriad of rail, shipping, smelting and local historical exhibits, preserved by the National Trust.
Displays include: recreated room settings set at about 1900; Port Pirie's largest industry the Pasminco Smelter, formerly BHAS with details of products made and models; railway and shipping history; narrow gauge shunting engine 'Port Pirie'; and a time-line development of Port Pirie.
The museum offers a small shop for visitors to find souvenirs, as well as parking spots available for cars and trailers alike.
